For the past month I’ve been in rehearsal for Synetic Theater’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. I play Basil Hallward, an artist who falls in love with his muse. For him art and love are inseparable. He cannot differentiate between the way that he feels and the way that he paints – and in the act of painting he finds himself. As I struggle to find Basil I feel joy, frustration, self-deprecation, elation, mirth, and despair…it’s a lot like falling in love, actually.
