2013 - 2014 Season

The Picture of Dorian Gray

    September 26 >> November 3, 2013
    Directed by Paata Tsikurishvili

Fearing the ravages of time and realizing the impermanence of youth, Dorian Gray makes a fateful wish–that his almost supernaturally lifelike portrait grow old while he remains forever young and beautiful. Synetic’s inventiveness and unforgettable visuals will elevate Oscar Wilde’s fantastical story to yet another level. This production has dialogue.

““Dorian Gray” reveals that the Tsikurishvilis never stop thinking about how to keep their aesthetic entertainingly fresh, how determined they remain to make a splash. Part of the fun of being a returning patron to Synetic is seeing and hearing familiar elements customized for their latest story. You see, Synetic’s portrait doesn’t seem to fade with age. No, it just keeps getting sharper.”
    The Washington Post

“Pushes enough boundaries to make Oscar Wilde proud.”

“Something beautiful and not to be missed.”
    Washington Blade

“The creative, movement-focused company has delivered one of its most ambitious productions to date with its season opener, The Picture of Dorian Gray. The performance group is trying out some new techniques with the show…it’s clear director Paata Tsikurishvili and choreographer Irina Tsikurishvili [are] still up for taking chances.”

“A truly sexy, gothic tale perfect for the Halloween season.”
    MD Theatre Guide

“The production shows the maturing of a company willing to go well beyond the box of tricks that brought it fame and notice. Try it out with eyes wide open.”
    Showbiz Radio

“Never a company to rest on its laurels, Synetic Theater brings innovative and fresh work to the stage yet again …the immensely talented creative team leverages dialogue, movement, projections, and a host of other technical effects – even, if you can imagine, more than a few splashes of neon-colored paint – to put a new twist on the well-known tale in only a way that Synetic can do.”
