FAQ’s

What is Physical Theater? Physical Theater is the art of storytelling through movement. It draws on elements of other art forms, including dance, acrobatics, mime, and is often (but not always) wordless.

What is a Synetic Company Member? Company Members receive training in the Synetic method and will be considered for casting as principal, support and ensemble roles alike. Company Members may also have an opportunity to join the Touring Company, which performs at schools, events, festivals, and other venues.

What should prospective Company Members prepare for their audition? Auditioners should come prepared with a headshot and résumé. Dress comfortably and come prepared to move energetically and deliver a brief monologue (if asked). Those who have established Physical Theater skills, such as flexibility, acrobatics, balance, or dance will be given the opportunity to demonstrate those skills.

Who should audition? Those auditioning should be 18 years of age or older, with no maximum age limit. Synetic is particularly interested in artists with movement skills in acrobatics, stunts, stilt walking, clowning, dance, and mime. Synetic welcomes people of all backgrounds and abilities to audition.

Do I need to be a professional actor or dancer? Some Synetic artists are full-time professional actors and dancers who perform across the region and nationally; others are not.
